Franklin Wine Club
Quini WineUps
Offering more than just a wine tasting experience. You and our club can also be rewarded and enter for great prizes!
Each month I/we will choose a wine theme and hold a tasting/education event.
The main concept of the Quini WineUp is to share a social, fun, wine tasting where we will expand our wine knowledge and experience using Quini. We will get together once per month to share our wine experience and record our impressions using the interactive Quini app which is designed to be fun and playful. The reviews we make using Quini are meant to be shared, and if you choose you may follow one another through the Quini app.
Quini is more than just recording whether you like or do not like a wine. Quini’s five step tasting process reminds and teaches how to focus on all aspects of the wine to develop a complete impression of the wine. By focusing on each the eye, nose, mouth, finish and an overall opinion you are able to pinpoint what makes each wine memorable and appealing or not. Quini provides you a record of regions, varietals and wineries the you tend to enjoy the most and keeps a history of all your tastings. With the detail provided in each wine tasting Quini is also able to provide incredibly personalized recommendations specific to your own wine palate.
Group and Group Member Rewards
For every 400 tasting reviews completed in the WineUp, Quini will ship 6 special wines not readily available in the local area –These wines will be raffled off to club members that attend the Wineups.
Group members have the opportunity to receive entries for a wine tasting tour by reviewing wines outside of the wine tasting groups and posting them to social media. For each review posted to social media and noted by Quini (outside of the regular monthly WineUp tastings), you are entered to win a fully paid, multi-day wine trip along with a guest. Value up to $5,000! This year it’s three nights, four days in the beautiful Okanagan Valley region, BC, Canada.
Also don’t forget our Quini loyalty program!!
You can get Riedel glasses for 25 and 50 wines you review.

Support Your Local Independent
A recent survey in UK found that only 5% of consumers buy regularly from independent wine stores. If we don’t support them, our future wine choice may be severely limited.
While we find it as hard to resist a good deal as anyone, We also want to see small shops thrive. And if you don’t buy at least some of your wine from them, that just won’t happen.
In The UK they started a campaign March For The Independents were small stores band together to support each other’s “small” businesses.
We get that concept now more than ever! That’s why we are all in on the new
#shopfranklin small business campaign in town.
We along with many other businesses in town are small family owned. We research products to sell that are small and family owned. At our education/tasting events we always stress you have a choice where your money goes. Its been said that 80% of wine sold in USA is owned by a handful of “winemakers”.
We will continue to support #shopfranklin and hope that Franklin small businesses never see only 5% of you.

Diageo Targets Wine And Beer Categories With New Product Rollouts
Diageo Chateau & Estate (DC&E) is rolling out a new California wine brand to the U.S. market this spring, Truvée Wines. Derived from the French word “to find,” Truvée is a Central Coast-sourced label created by sisters Robin and Andréa McBride, who grew up separately in Monterey, California and Marlborough, New Zealand respectively. The two sisters are seeking to combine the knowledge gained in the wine regions in which they were raised with the Truvée brand, which includes a lightly oaked Chardonnay and a Rhône-style red blend, both retailing at $16 a bottle.
DC&E is also hitting the market with the relaunched Chateau La Paws Wines, which supports animal rescue efforts through a partnership with North Shore Animal League America (NSALA). Twelve different rescued dogs are featured on the rotating labels for Chateau La Paws’ Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Red Wine Blend (all $12.99), which were crafted by veteran winemaker Marty Spate.
Meanwhile, Diageo is set to begin test marketing a new beer brand, Thump Keg Brewing Co., which crafts beers related to Diageo spirit labels like George Dickel and Peligroso Tequila. Testing in select markets like Nashville, Austin and New York City, Thump Keg is debuting with a Rye IPA (6.2% abv) and an Agave Amber Ale (5.8% abv). Both retail at $9.49 a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles and are also available in 20-liter kegs. Thump Keg Rye IPA uses the same underlying grains for its mash bill as those used for George Dickel Rye Whisky, while Agave Amber Ale, inspired by Peligroso, uses blue agave in its recipe.

Worcester, Massachusetts’ Wormtown Brewery has completed construction of a new 10,000-square-foot brewing facility to keep up with growth. Wormtown’s new facility is 10 times larger than the original one and features a taproom, a 30-barrel, two-vessel configuration that will double capacity to 6,000 barrels, as well as a GAI bottling system that allows for packaging bottles to complement its 16-ounce cans. The brewery says it hopes to eventually reach 30,000 barrels at the new site and is already planning further expansion of the new facility. Two 90-barrel fermentation tanks are expected to be delivered next month, bringing the capacity to 10,500 barrels and opening the possibility of expansion to new markets.

Jackson Family Buys South African Vineyard
Jackson Family Wines, which owns more than 20,000 acres of vineyards in California and around the world, is expanding to a new wine region: South Africa. Wine Spectator has learned the company is buying Fijnbosch farm, which includes 20 acres of vines in the Banghoek Valley, a ward in the prominent Stellenbosch region, according to a spokesperson for the firm.
Jackson Family is planning to release 1,000 cases of a Chardonnay called Capensis made from the farm’s 2013 vintage, co-produced with vintner Antony Beck, a local whose family owns Graham Beck Wines. The purchase price for the farm, which totals 121 acres of land overall, was not disclosed. The deal continues a wave of expansion for the company, which has recently added vineyards in Oregon and California.
The Engelage family is selling the property, located near Bartinney and Thelema Mountain Vineyards, two top producers. Until now, they have sold the grapes to other wineries, including Jackson Family. South African wines have improved markedly and steadily in the past decade, though annual exports to the U.S. have plateaued at around 1 million cases

American Peach marks the distillery’s first 70-proof moonshine and joins other products including Silver Cloud Tennessee Sour Mash, Jim Tom Hedrick’s Unaged Rye, Appalachian Apple Pie, Blockader’s Blackberry, Butterscotch Gold, Old Fashioned Lemonade and Southern Sweet Tea.

New Bud Light Brand Extension
AB InBev is reportedly set to extend its Bud Light brand in the U.S. with Mixx Tail, a new cocktail-beer hybrid. According to Ad Age, the Mixx Tail lineup is modeled after AB InBev’s existing Quilmes brand of cocktail-like brews, which is currently marketed in Argentina. Available next spring, the Mixx Tail brand could include Hurricane, Firewalker and Long Island Ice Tea flavors, although AB InBev declined to confirm those details. Mixx Tail’s reported rollout follows the success of AB InBev’s Margarita-inspired Bud Light Rita range, whose core Lime-A-Rita and Straw-Ber-Rita expressions sold 10.5 million and 11.5 million (2.25-gallon) cases in the U.S. last year, respectively. Meanwhile, AB InBev recently announced plans to launch Oculto, a new 6%-abv Tequila-inspired beer, next year.

NEW Shandy from Leinenkugel’s
Did you know the great state of Wisconsin produces mroe cranberries than any state in America? Our hometown pride inspired us to brew Leinenkugel’s Cranberry Ginger Shandy. The combination of traditional wheat beer with natural cranberry flavor and a note of ginger is as refreshing as a toboggan ride Out Here.
BLUE MOON MOUNTAIN ABBEY ALE
It’s no secret that it gets pretty cold here in Colorado. So early on in the brewery’s
history, our brewmasters wanted to create a beer that would do the trick on a
snow winter day. Today, we craft our winter wonder with roasted malts and dark,
Belgian candi sugar for rich caramel and toffee notes. It’s perfect on those winter
days when you’re stuck inside.
HARPOON CHOCOLATE STOUT
A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor
is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or
kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with
an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate.
HARPOON WINTER WARMER
Brewed since 1988, this beer has become a New England seasonal classic.
Cinnamon and nutmeg dominate the aroma. The taste is a rich combination of
the holiday spices and the hearty malt backbone. There is a mild sweetness to the
finish along wit the lingering flavor of the spices.
IN STOCK
HARPOON U.F.O. GINGERLAND
Inspired by the classic tale. Cinnamon, clove, and ginger combine with an
unfiltered wheat beer in this deliciously spiced, gingerbread-inspired beer.
IN STOCK
IPSWICH WINTER
A British style Old Ale perfect for easing the cold winter months, our Winter Ale
offers a malt selection with hints of fig and chocolate, creating the perfect cozy
balance of hops and malt.
PEAK ORGANIC WINTER SESSION ALE
This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then
single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm.
Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the
toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal.
IN STOCK
SAMUEL ADAMS WINTER LAGER
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice, Samuel Adams Winter Lager is a
wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that accompany the season.
IN STOCK
SAMUEL ADAMS SMALL BATCH SERIES: MERRY MAKER
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The
flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and
heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and
spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly
playful brew full of merry mischief.
SAMUEL ADAMS WHITE CHRISTMAS
A special time of year calls for a special brew. For us, this brew combines the
crispness of a white ale with the warmth of familiar holiday spices.
IN STOCK
SHIPYARD GINGERBREADHEAD
Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale is like a spicy, rich, gingerbread cookie you can
drink. The warm flavors of molasses and brown sugar are accented with ginger,
cloves, and cinnamon. This beer rides into town just for the winter, so get it while
it lasts.

Magic Hat
South Burlington, Vermont’s Magic Hat Brewing Company is releasing a limited edition holiday raspberry stout, Feast of Fools. Previously only available at the brewery, this year 6,000 22-ounce bottles of the brew will be sold at select retailers nationwide. The 6%-abv stout features a sweet nose supported by cocoa and dark chocolate from the malts, the company says. Magic Hat will donate $5,000 from Feast of Fools’ sales to the Vermont Food Bank. Magic Hat is part of the portfolio of Cerveceria Costa Rica’s North American Breweries, along with brands such as Labatt, Genesee, Pyramid and Honey Brown Lager.
TRAVELER JOLLY TRAVELER
Driven by a desire to embrace all things wintry, the Jolly Traveler warms the spirit
during the months when it’s needed most. Embracing the flavors of the season,
Jolly is the first-ever winter shandy with notes of orange, pomegranate and spice.
We proudly introduce the Jolly Traveler, a cool fellow with a WINTRY disposition.
WACHUSETT WINTER ALE
Made with smoked and special malts, this rich, savory Scotch Ale will keep you
warm through the holidays and well after. First brewed in 1995, it’s our oldest,
strongest, and most complex seasonal.
Anchor Christmas Ale
San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company is releasing this year’s edition of its Christmas Ale, marking its 40th annual holiday beer. Each year, the brewery releases a holiday offering brewed with a different recipe and packaged in different labels. The 2014 offering is a dark spiced ale with hints of citrus fruit, spices and piney hop notes, the company says. The packaging on this year’s release features a Giant Sequoia drawn by James Stitt and created to support the state’s parks foundation. Anchor Christmas Ale is available from early November through mid-January in six-packs and on draft, as well as gold-foiled magnum bottles.

Wine Spectator: Who Buys Wine Online?
Online wine sales have been increasing in the United States at double-digit rates for the past five years. But that doesn’t mean they’re a major part of the industry yet. More than 80% of wine is sold in grocery stores, wine shops and other brick-and-mortar outlets, according to Nielsen. “Wine remains under-penetrated online at less than 2% of all U.S. wines sales,” said Michael Osborne, founder and vice president for merchandising at Wine.com. A new study by researchers at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo sheds some light on the small but growing community of online wine consumers.
Based on a survey of consumers, researchers discovered that online wine buyers are more likely to be male, over the age of 40, married with children and have a higher household income. They also tend to be wine connoisseurs or enthusiasts and spend more on wine than non-online buyers. (An e-mail survey was sent to 3,000 wine purchasers with a 31% response rate; 23% of respondents had purchased wine online.)
When these consumers buy wine online they are generally seeking higher quality wines from recognized appellations and have a preference for family-owned or small wineries. They are also quite tech savvy and are more likely to use phone apps or tablets to research wine information. But these online wine consumers do not use Facebook, Twitter or blogs any more than non-online wine consumers. Surprisingly, Millennial consumers of legal drinking age currently purchase very little wine online, even though they grew up with the Internet. The researchers discovered the main reasons were that Millennials think shipping costs are too high and would prefer not to wait for a wine shipment.
Though online wine sales currently constitute a small percentage of industry volume, most experts agree that the channel will continue to grow, especially with Amazon entering the arena in 2012 and large wine retailers such as Total Wine and BevMo expanding their web presence. Wine Spectator has more on the Cal-Poly study and the outlook for online wine sales in the U.S. market.

The 70-proof product is launching nationwide, backed by a full marketing mix including television, print and online advertising, with a Regal Apple commercial set to air nationally on TV and social media beginning November 17.
