With less regulation, it’s hard to know what the alcohol level is in a given wine
Last year, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department admitted that it was unable to test the alcohol levels of any of the 25,000 to 35,000 wines that are sold in the U.S. market annually.

Winter Beers Coming Soon Or In Stock Now
NEW Shandy from Leinenkugel’s
Did you know the great state of Wisconsin produces mroe cranberries than any state in America? Our hometown pride inspired us to brew Leinenkugel’s Cranberry Ginger Shandy. The combination of traditional wheat beer with natural cranberry flavor and a note of ginger is as refreshing as a toboggan ride Out Here.
BLUE MOON MOUNTAIN ABBEY ALE
It’s no secret that it gets pretty cold here in Colorado. So early on in the brewery’s
history, our brewmasters wanted to create a beer that would do the trick on a
snow winter day. Today, we craft our winter wonder with roasted malts and dark,
Belgian candi sugar for rich caramel and toffee notes. It’s perfect on those winter
days when you’re stuck inside.
HARPOON CHOCOLATE STOUT
A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor
is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or
kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with
an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate.
HARPOON WINTER WARMER
Brewed since 1988, this beer has become a New England seasonal classic.
Cinnamon and nutmeg dominate the aroma. The taste is a rich combination of
the holiday spices and the hearty malt backbone. There is a mild sweetness to the
finish along wit the lingering flavor of the spices.
IN STOCK
HARPOON U.F.O. GINGERLAND
Inspired by the classic tale. Cinnamon, clove, and ginger combine with an
unfiltered wheat beer in this deliciously spiced, gingerbread-inspired beer.
IN STOCK
IPSWICH WINTER
A British style Old Ale perfect for easing the cold winter months, our Winter Ale
offers a malt selection with hints of fig and chocolate, creating the perfect cozy
balance of hops and malt.
PEAK ORGANIC WINTER SESSION ALE
This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then
single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm.
Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the
toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal.
IN STOCK
SAMUEL ADAMS WINTER LAGER
Bold and rich, with a touch of holiday spice, Samuel Adams Winter Lager is a
wonderful way to enjoy the cold evenings that accompany the season.
IN STOCK
SAMUEL ADAMS SMALL BATCH SERIES: MERRY MAKER
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The
flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and
heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and
spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly
playful brew full of merry mischief.
SAMUEL ADAMS WHITE CHRISTMAS
A special time of year calls for a special brew. For us, this brew combines the
crispness of a white ale with the warmth of familiar holiday spices.
IN STOCK
SHIPYARD GINGERBREADHEAD
Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale is like a spicy, rich, gingerbread cookie you can
drink. The warm flavors of molasses and brown sugar are accented with ginger,
cloves, and cinnamon. This beer rides into town just for the winter, so get it while
it lasts.
IN STOCK
Magic Hat
South Burlington, Vermont’s Magic Hat Brewing Company is releasing a limited edition holiday raspberry stout, Feast of Fools. Previously only available at the brewery, this year 6,000 22-ounce bottles of the brew will be sold at select retailers nationwide. The 6%-abv stout features a sweet nose supported by cocoa and dark chocolate from the malts, the company says. Magic Hat will donate $5,000 from Feast of Fools’ sales to the Vermont Food Bank. Magic Hat is part of the portfolio of Cerveceria Costa Rica’s North American Breweries, along with brands such as Labatt, Genesee, Pyramid and Honey Brown Lager.
TRAVELER JOLLY TRAVELER
Driven by a desire to embrace all things wintry, the Jolly Traveler warms the spirit
during the months when it’s needed most. Embracing the flavors of the season,
Jolly is the first-ever winter shandy with notes of orange, pomegranate and spice.
We proudly introduce the Jolly Traveler, a cool fellow with a WINTRY disposition.
WACHUSETT WINTER ALE
Made with smoked and special malts, this rich, savory Scotch Ale will keep you
warm through the holidays and well after. First brewed in 1995, it’s our oldest,
strongest, and most complex seasonal.
Anchor Christmas Ale
San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company is releasing this year’s edition of its Christmas Ale, marking its 40th annual holiday beer. Each year, the brewery releases a holiday offering brewed with a different recipe and packaged in different labels. The 2014 offering is a dark spiced ale with hints of citrus fruit, spices and piney hop notes, the company says. The packaging on this year’s release features a Giant Sequoia drawn by James Stitt and created to support the state’s parks foundation. Anchor Christmas Ale is available from early November through mid-January in six-packs and on draft, as well as gold-foiled magnum bottles.

Wine Spectator: Who Buys Wine Online?
Online wine sales have been increasing in the United States at double-digit rates for the past five years. But that doesn’t mean they’re a major part of the industry yet. More than 80% of wine is sold in grocery stores, wine shops and other brick-and-mortar outlets, according to Nielsen. “Wine remains under-penetrated online at less than 2% of all U.S. wines sales,” said Michael Osborne, founder and vice president for merchandising at Wine.com. A new study by researchers at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo sheds some light on the small but growing community of online wine consumers.
Based on a survey of consumers, researchers discovered that online wine buyers are more likely to be male, over the age of 40, married with children and have a higher household income. They also tend to be wine connoisseurs or enthusiasts and spend more on wine than non-online buyers. (An e-mail survey was sent to 3,000 wine purchasers with a 31% response rate; 23% of respondents had purchased wine online.)
When these consumers buy wine online they are generally seeking higher quality wines from recognized appellations and have a preference for family-owned or small wineries. They are also quite tech savvy and are more likely to use phone apps or tablets to research wine information. But these online wine consumers do not use Facebook, Twitter or blogs any more than non-online wine consumers. Surprisingly, Millennial consumers of legal drinking age currently purchase very little wine online, even though they grew up with the Internet. The researchers discovered the main reasons were that Millennials think shipping costs are too high and would prefer not to wait for a wine shipment.
Though online wine sales currently constitute a small percentage of industry volume, most experts agree that the channel will continue to grow, especially with Amazon entering the arena in 2012 and large wine retailers such as Total Wine and BevMo expanding their web presence. Wine Spectator has more on the Cal-Poly study and the outlook for online wine sales in the U.S. market.
