Some whiskey and beer pairing suggestions
Scotch:
When thinking about matching beer with Scotch one would consider focusing in on the more common smokey, peaty flavor notes.
Beer styles such as Rauchbiers, which are smokey, Scotch ales which have a peaty, roasty character, and Kolsch-style beers which are relatively balanced and mildly floral, could be good pairing selections.
Brands we would suggest for pairing with Scotch would be Uinta Tinder Rauchbier, Rahr Brewing Iron Thistle, and Ballast Point Yellowtail Pale Ale.
Bourbon:
When thinking about matching beer with Bourbon one should consider focusing in on the more common vanilla and sweet caramel flavor notes.
Beer styles such as Pilsners, which are grainy, sweet, with a hop bite in the finish, Bourbon Barrel-aged Stouts that can be dry, woody, with bourbon notes, or Chocolate Vanilla Porters, with flavors of sweet chocolate and vanilla, might be fine pairing selections.
Brands we would suggest for pairing with Bourbon would be Samuel Adams Noble Pils, New Holland Dragon’s Milk, and Breckenridge Vanilla Porter.
Rye:
When thinking about matching beer with Rye one would consider focusing in on the more common malty, spicy flavor notes.
Beer styles such as Rye Pale ales, which are malty, spicy with less hop bite, and IPAs, which can be earthy, floral and less hop forward can work as beer pairing with Rye.
Brands we would suggest for pairing with Rye would be Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, and Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.
Moonshine:
When thinking about matching beer with Moonshine, consider focusing in on the more common malty, candy corn flavor notes.
Beer styles such as Belgian-style blondes, which are sweet, with notes of Belgian candi sugar and fruity Belgian yeast, witbiers, with flavors of sweet malt, coriander and clove, or the very balanced lager, sweet and grainy, as good pairing ideas.
Brands we would suggest for pairing with Moonshine would be St. Stefanus Blonde, Avery Brewing White Rascal, Shorts The Local’s Lager.

Say What About Wine Scores
I think it’s ok to use a score as a guide to sort through the confusion; just keep in mind that the score was assigned by someone who is not “you” and was most likely not assessed in the “situation” in which you are planning to enjoy your wine.

Kentucky: First At American Commercial Wine
California is the largest wine-producing state in the U.S. by far (<1800 wineries), followed by New York (>400), Washington (<300) and Oregon (>100). But none of the four states was first at American commercial wine–not even second. That ranking belongs to Kentucky and Ohio, respectively.

Tri-County Adult Education
Vinitas WineWorks LLC, Tri-County Adult Education, and Franklin Liquors are excited to announce the Fall session of the French Wine Scholar Certification program!
Developed by the Wine Scholar Guild with the support of the French Ministry of Agriculture, this specialization program is designed for advanced students of wine, whether professionals or serious wine hobbyists. This is NOT an introductory wine class; students should have professional wine experience or previous classroom study. Students must be familiar with the concepts of viticulture and vinification, major grape varieties, wine regions, and wine styles from across the globe, and have experience tasting wine in a formal setting.
Our next session starts September 6 and will run on nine consecutive Tuesday evenings.
